Raising Awareness programme about HIV

The Edge Foundation believes that prevention is better than a cure. This is why we diligently provide HIV awareness classes to women and children – mostly to those who work at the Brick Kilns.

Although the estimated number of individuals diagnosed with HIV is low, sitting at around 0.1 percent of the adult population, it is believed that the epidemic is growing considerably. This is mostly due to the increased usage of drugs among urban populations; 21% of injecting drug users are said to be diagnosed with HIV.

Our programme features 2 classes per month where we provide information on how one can prevent the onset of HIV Aids. We demonstrate how the disease is passed and how it can be controlled. We also provide community members with test kits so that they can know their status and seek immediate medical attention if their test shows positive.

Awareness programme about TB

Similar to our HIV awareness campaign, we also run a programme that informs the community about Tuberculosis, its causes, and how it can be prevented. We advise on what type of medical treatment needs to be administered if you test positive and we provide encouragement and support to those who have been diagnosed with the disease.

We believe that an informed community is one that thrives.
